2017 Ruinart Sommeliers Challenge
Sommeliers Australia and Champagne Ruinart are delighted to announce the 2017 Ruinart Sommeliers Challenge
. Entries for this exciting competition are open from 1 November until 6 February 2017.
Ruinart is committed to supporting the global sommelier community through career development and further education, and the Sommeliers Challenge invites talented sommeliers with a current Sommeliers Australia Sommeliers Membership
to participate in a training day hosted by Chef de Caves Frédéric Panaïotis.
30 finalists will be chosen to attend the Sommeliers Challenge in Melbourne on Monday 20 March 2017. Finalists will partake in a blind tasting of four wines and technical training by Panaïotis.
The judging panel will choose one sommelier from the finalists to be the 2017 Ruinart Sommeliers Challenge winner, based upon their answers to the blind tasting. The winner will be announced on 22 March.
The winner will receive a return business class trip to France to attend a four-day educational trip to Reims, Champagne with Frederic Panaiotis, in July 2017. This will be an opportunity for top sommeliers to immerse themselves in the world of Champagne and to experience rare tastings and experiences alongside different producers, varieties and wines, whilst offering invaluable networking with their peers from around the world.
This major prize is a once in a lifetime experience, 2016 winner, Filippo L'Episcopo (Head Sommelier Ivy Level 4) says: 'winning the Ruinart Sommeliers Challenge and travelling to Reims to spend a week with Frédéric was definitely one of the most memorable and unforgettable wine experiences I have ever had.'
Frédéric Panaïotis says: 'We're delighted to be working with Sommeliers Australia bring the Ruinart Sommeliers Challenge to Australia for the fourth year in a row and I'm looking forward to seeing the high level of competition in Melbourne.'
